Necker Ridge NorthEast ASCII XYZ Acoustic Backscatter data.
(100 m/pixel) full coverage, processed Acoustic Backscatter Data - Data were first reduced for position, elevation, orientation, water-column sound-speed and refraction effects and are provided as a cleaned gridded Acoustic Backscatter ASCII XYZ dataset. All soundings and ancillary raw and reduced data were provided with quality flags, indicating whether these data were rejected or deemed to be outside deliverable survey specifications.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), on behalf of the United States Government, has a requirement to carry out surveys of specific regions on the continental margin (slope and rise) in the Pacific Ocean in order to obtain ASCII XYZ. These data are required to support any potential claim for extended jurisdiction by the United States under United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) Article 76. The requirement is for the collection and processing of full-coverage multibeam sonar data in water depths of approximately 1000 to 5000 m in order to precisely define the location of the 2500-m isobath and the "foot of the slope" as defined under UNCLOS Article 76. As part of their NOAA-funded research program, University of New Hampshire (UNH) researchers oversaw data acquisition, processing and archiving of the data collected during the cruise.

All soundings are within 0.5% of water depth, based on a patch test prior to data collection and cross-line checks during the cruise. Positions were determined by GPS-aided inertial (POS/MV) navigation. Sound-speed profiles were calculated from numerous XBT casts calibrated to an CTD cast during a patch test. Descriptions of the systems and offsets applied can be found within the cruise report at http://ccom.unh.edu/publications/Gardner_2011_Cruise_Report_KM1121.pdf.

Horizontal positioning of the vessel was determined using GPS-aided inertial navigation. Positioning is accurate to better than 2.0 meter (at 95% confidence) during all surveying. All positioning is referenced to the WGS84 Datum.
better than 0.5% of water depth.
Individual soundings data were edited for fliers and then merged with navigation using University of New Brunswick Ocean Mapping Group SwathEd software.
