The products contained here are full-resolution magnetometer observations for the GOES-8 through GOES-15 series of 8 spacecraft (also known as GOES-I-M and GOES-NOP prior to launch). Each spacecraft includes a pair of boom-mounted fluxgate magnetometer instruments to obtain measurements of the geomagnetic field. Both series are 3-axis stabilized. For GOES-I-M, only one of the two magnetometers is operated at a time (generally the outboard magnetometer). Daily data files in the NetCDF-4 format and quality control graphics are provided. The NetCDF-4 product file includes observations from the operating instrument in several coordinate systems, and the satellite location calculated using a standard SGP/SDP orbit propagator. The field measurements are provided as B field vectors in the ECI (Earth-centered inertial), EPN (earthward, polar, normal/eastward), GSE (geocentric solar ecliptic), GSM (geocentric solar magnetospheric) and VDH (dipole aligned) coordinate systems. Three quality control stack plots are provided per day: a) full field, b) model-data comparison, and c) spectrogram. The NOAA magnetometer team is currently working on comprehensive documentation. For assistance with these data in the interim, including potential caveats and usage recommendations, please use a contact from the list below. For now, we are putting the final touches on the NetCDF data files and will populate the repository shortly. In the interim, please utilize sample NetCDF product files in the "samples" directory and the full archive of high-resolution time series and spectral plots. *** Please note that the metadata for the variables 'time,' 'time_ib,' and 'time_ob' erroneously indicate a '0.1-second resolution,' whereas the magnetic field data and the relevant timestamps actually have a 0.512-second time resolution. *** Paul Loto’aniu (MAG Lead NCEI/CIRES, paul.lotoaniu@noaa.gov) Alessandra Pacini (NCEI Heliophysics Steward, alessandra.pacini@noaa.gov) Howard Singer (MAG Responsible Scientist SWPC, howard.singer@noaa.gov) Kimberly Baugh (Data Manager NCEI/CIRES, kim.baugh@noaa.gov)
